How this list was made

Apart from our own three picks, which are marked as picks, every restaurant here comes from Naver Local search results for the neighbourhood, sorted by review count, on 18 September 2026. Nobody at this site has eaten at all of them, so there are no ratings and no descriptions of how the food tastes. Names and addresses are as Naver lists them.

How the area is laid out

Banwoldang station sits under the junction of Dalgubeol-daero, the city's main east–west road, and Jungang-daero, which runs north to Daegu station. The department store is on the north-west corner.

South of the main road is mostly residential and offices, and is not where you would look for lunch.

North-west: Namseong-ro and the herbal medicine alley

The quietest of the four directions and the closest to the department store. The street still has working herbal medicine shops, and the smell of them is noticeable on a warm day. Two of the places below are on this one street.

The soups on Cheongwoo Haejang's menu are explained in galbitang versus seolleongtang and haejangguk versus yukgaejang. The walking route that passes through this street is in the modern history alley guide.

North: Jongno

North-east: Dongseong-ro

The busiest direction, with the youngest crowd and the longest opening hours.

Keep walking east and Dongseong-ro becomes Samdeok-dong, which is covered on the Daegu restaurant list. That is where Gasik's main branch and the bar Inedit-dam are.

Underground

The arcade under the junction is useful in two situations: heavy rain, and the peak of summer, when Daegu's heat makes a ten-minute walk at street level unattractive. It is mainly clothing and phone accessories, with snack counters and cafés rather than restaurants. Treat it as a way of getting between exits in comfort rather than a place to plan a meal.

Picking by situation

Menus, prices and opening hours are quoted from each restaurant's own website as read on 19 September 2026. They change, so check before you go.

The short version

From Banwoldang station and The Hyundai Daegu, north-west is Namseong-ro, the herbal medicine street, quiet and good for a sit-down meal; north is Jongno, older restaurants and izakayas; north-east is Dongseong-ro, busy and late; and underground is an arcade that is more useful as shelter than as a place to eat. On Namseong-ro itself are Gasik, for Western food, directly behind the department store, and Cheongwoo Haejang, for Korean beef soups, a little further along.
